Universal Credentialing
Public Act 282 of 2020 required MDHHS to create a Universal Credentialing (UC) program. MDHHS was tasked to establish, maintain, and revise, as necessary, a uniform CMH services credentialing program.
For SUD providers, this means that the organizational credentialing that MSHN completes for your organizational initially and every three years will be done through this system. The Universal Credentialing (UC) was built in the MDHHS Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system which you may have become familiar with when completing ASAM LOC designations. Universal credentialing was required as part of legislation passed a few years ago.
Once the profile is complete, the designated contacts for each agency will receive an email indicating that a profile has been created for your organization.
Once the account is set up, your agencies credentialing contacts will then be able to access and complete the credentialing application, you can save and return to the application. While the initial process of submitting an application is lengthy, once all are entered initially, updating every three years will be much less time-consuming.
Once your agency completes the application, sign/submit. MSHN will be alerted that there is an application pending approval, at which time, we will then complete our sections which include uploading primary source verification, audit info, etc.
The Universal Credentialing program adheres to national standards from accrediting bodies that have been approved by the department and complies with the national certification standards for community mental health counselors and professionals. The Universal Credentialing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) function allows for the process of credentialing or recredentialing (Provider Network: Credentialing & Recredentialing) Licensed Independent Practitioners (LIP’s) as well as Organizational Providers, in accordance with the MDHHS published requirements.
Universal Credentialing (CRM) must be used for the following health care professionals that are directly contracted by MSHN:
- Organizational SUD Treatment and Recovery providers
